Bishop WatfordBishop J.C.Watford was born and reared mostly on a farm in North Carolina. He attended public schools in North Carolina and Virginia, graduating in the top precentile of the class of 1966 from Bertie High School in Windsor, N.C.. After graduation and working various jobs in North Carolina and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he joined the United States Marine Corps in February 1969, serving 3 1/2 years, and honorably discharged in August 1972 as a Sergeant E-5.Bishop Watford received an Associate of Science Degree in Business Education from Chowan College, at the time a two-year institution (now Chowan University) in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. At Chowan, he received the scholarship award both years as the commuting student having the highest academic average, was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Fraternity, member of the Alpha Psi Omega National Drama Fraternity and was named as one of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges”. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education and Marketing from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. At East Carolina, he received the Veterans Scholarship Award. He taught in the public school system of North Carolina for 10 years, being selected by his peers as “Teacher of the Year” in 1986. Bishop Watford received his Bachelor, Master and Doctorate Degrees in Theology from the Williams-Clemon-Davis Bible Institute (New Life Theological Seminary) in Orangeburg, South Carolina and now serves as one of the deans. He was selected as One of the Most Outstanding Young Men of America in 1984 and listed in the National Who’s Who of Executives and Professionals, 2004-2005. As the owner and general manager of WRCS AM 970 Radio Station in Ahoskie, North Carolina, Dr.Watford is deeply involved in his communities to include: Board member of the North Carolina Gospel Announcers Guild, Member of: The Gospel Music Workshop of America,  Ahoskie Rotary Club (served 2008-2009 as the first African-American president in it’s then 68 year history), Past president of the Chowan College Alumni Association, Ministerial Board of Associates at Chowan University (2nd term), East Carolina Dental School Advisory Board in Ahoskie N.C., Small Business Center Advisory Board at Roanoke Chowan Community College in Ahoskie N.C., Executive Board Member of the Hertford County Branch of the NAACP and recipient of the 2013 Humanitarian Award, Vice President of the C.G.White Alumni Association, Dr.Watford has also receive nuumerous other recognitions and awards. Bishop Watford and his loving, supportive, Connie (a retired public school teacher) reside in Powellsville, North Carolina.
