About This COGIC Directory

Branches & jurisdictions we distinguish

Several distinct bodies use the “Church of God in Christ” name. Every listing is assigned exactly one primary branch so you can tell them apart:

• COGIC, Inc. Church of God in Christ, Inc. — The historic Memphis-headquartered body, the largest and oldest COGIC jurisdiction, founded by Bishop Charles Harrison Mason.
• COGIC International COGIC International — Church of God in Christ International, a distinct body organized in 1969 that separated from the Memphis-based organization.
• Other / Independent Other / Independent COGIC — Independent or unaffiliated congregations and smaller recognized COGIC offshoots that use the Church of God in Christ name.

Data & how to add records

Church records live in data/churches.json. Each record supports: name, branch, street address, city, state, ZIP, latitude/longitude, and optional phone, website, email, service times, pastor/leader, and jurisdiction/district. Coordinates power distance ranking; records without coordinates still appear on their city/state pages but are excluded from pure distance ordering.

To add or update churches: edit data/churches.json and run npm run build to regenerate the site, or use the reviewed submission form. Duplicate submissions (same name + address + state) are de-duplicated automatically.

Current dataset: 545 churches across 42 states/territories, in 186 cities.

Data sources & attribution

US city, state, population, and coordinate data used to guide our nationwide discovery is derived from the SimpleMaps US Cities Database (Basic), licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. Source: simplemaps.com/data/us-cities.
